The Face Lift
In 2006, over $500 million was spent on face lift procedures according to plastic surgery statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. A face lift, known medically as a rhytidectomy, is a popular plastic surgery procedure that many people choose to combat the effects that aging has on the face.
Facial features are sometimes the most revealing of a person’s age. Creases, wrinkles and sagging can occur with age, and many people lose their self-esteem with the arrival of these signs of aging.
Face lifts do not stop the aging process, but by tightening the skin on the face and removing excess facial fat, the process can remove or make some of these aging signs less noticeable.
People considering a face lift need to still have elasticity in the skin and should have a strong bone structure. These will ensure the procedure yields the desired results.
Many people choose to have other procedures done at the same time as a face lift. Eyelid surgery, nose reshaping and neck surgery are some of the most common procedures people elect in conjunction with a face lift. These procedures "complete" the effects of a face lift for some.
A face lift alone averaged just under $5,000 in cost in 2006. Add eyelid surgery (approximately $2,800) or nose reshaping (approximately $3,800), and things can get very expensive very quickly.
Risks should be taken into account when considering a face lift. Face lifts carry few risks when carried out by a qualified surgeon, but hematoma, infection and nerve damage can occur. Recovery time can take up to a few weeks.
This section covers all aspects of face lift procedures, including types of face lifts, other procedures done in conjunction with face lifts and more.
Types of Face Lifts
There are many types of face lifts: non-surgical, mini lifts, traditional face lifts and more. Each type has a different desired effect, and each will vary in cost, recovery time and procedure.

Neck Lifts
Along with sagging of the face, many people experience sagging of the neck skin. Sometimes, performing a face lift will not achieve the desired effects if age is still evident in the neck area, so a neck lift is done in conjunction with a face lift.

Nose Surgery
Nose surgery is another popular plastic surgery procedure to have in conjunction with a face lift. Nose surgery is one of the top five most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, and averages about $3,800.
