toxic shock syndrome: A rare, but serious surgical complication that can develop when there is a bacterial infection anywhere in the body. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and fever.
traction alopecia: Traction alopecia occurs when hair is pulled excessively for long periods of time, such as when having cornrows or tight polytails.
varicose veins: Enlarged veins that are swollen and sometimes raised above the skin's surface. Often dark purple or blue, they have a twisted and bulging appearance. Often located on the calves or on the inside of the leg, varicose veins develop when the veins that allow blood to flow toward the heart stop working properly. Blood pools as a result, causing them to get larger. Some varicose veins can be removed.
virginal: Skin that has been untouched by surgery is called virginal and is easier to manipulate.
